9:30 – 10:30 Focola |
Enercal Energies Nouvelles and Akuo have teamed up with a farmer from the Focola region to develop the first agri-solar power plant in New Caledonia. With production capacity: 1.4 MW, 2 hectares of solar greenhouses, 2 GWh / year of electricity and 200 tons of market garden products. |
11:00 – 12:00 Wi Hâche Ouatom – Enercal Energies Nouvelles |
Wi Hâche Ouatom is the first (operation started Apr 2021) and the second largest PV production unit with storage built to date in New Caledonia. Its name means “ray of sunshine” in the Kanak Tîrî language.
This plant is equipped with 32,984 photovoltaic solar panels which will be able to produce the equivalent of the average consumption of 4,900 Caledonian households per year. Thanks to a storage of 7MWh on its batteries, the energy producer can now deliver a constant quantity of electricity to the manager of the electrical system, which buys renewable energy as a priority to meet the demand for electricity. We lunch at Ouatom tribe. |
12:15 – 2:30 Kwita Wije – Akuo Energy |
Kwita Wije is Akuo’s third solar project in New Caledonia, inaugurated in May 2022. The Kwita Wiije project includes 6 MWp of ground-based photovoltaic panels, an Agrinergie® greenhouse and 3 MW/3MWh of electricity storage. It helps to reduce CO2 emissions by 3,200 metric tons a year, and its renewable electricity production cover the needs of 1,700 homes. |
3:00 – 4:00 Helio Boulouparis-Total Energies Renouvelables Pacific |
Hélio Boulouparis 2, the largest solar power plant with energy storage in overseas France. The plant is the second tranche of the solar park which is the most extensive solar program ever carried out in New Caledonia. The first tranche, Hélio Boulouparis 1, was put on stream in 2017. |

New Caledonia is unique archipelago protected by the world’s largest lagoon.
Hidden in the middle of the Pacific to the east of Australia, New Caledonia is a vast, unique and diverse French overseas territory offering an exceptional variety of landscapes, cultures and activities.
Nouméa is a modern coastal capital with lots to offer. The islands are picture-postcard perfect with their paradise beaches. The lush East Coast is alive with the Kanak spirit. The West Coast is an opportunity to explore the authentic Wild West inhabited by “bushmen”. Finally, the Great South is an adventurer’s paradise with its myriad of outdoor activities.
Depending on demand, IPS connect will provide support to book a day trip from Nouméa.
Within a limited time frame, one the best option to enjoy the wonders of the nearby lagoon will be to spend a day at Amédée Lighthouse.
New Caledonia is considered a biodiversity hotspot, for its lagoon, but also for its unique flora and fauna, with more than 80% of the flora being endemic, found only in New Caledonia. For those more interested in the tropical rain and dry Forests, there are a host of options for nature lovers.
A perfect option for a one-day trip will be to enjoy the hiking or biking trails at the Parc de la Rivière bleue.
Isolated Power System Connect provides a unique opportunity for industry, academia and international experts working in the field of remote area power supply and isolated power systems to connect, discuss and share their ideas, present results, reflect on past experiences and discuss future projects.
