Melanie D. Johnson

Electrical Engineering Researcher, Energy Branch, U.S. Army ERDC-CERL

Melanie D. Johnson is an electrical engineering researcher in the Energy Branch of the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center’s Construction Engineering Research Laboratory (ERDC-CERL). She joined ERDC-CERL in 2008 and focuses on improving energy resiliency for DoD installations through microgrids and advanced electrical distribution technologies.

Melanie has served as Assistant Technical Manager for the JCTD SPIDERS program, was a key technical lead for the Tactical Microgrids Standards Consortium, and currently leads CERL’s Resilient Energy and Advanced Distribution Innovation Team.

She earned her M.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and her B.S.E.E. from the University of Texas at Austin, both with a focus on power and energy systems.
